Core77 Design for Social ImpactIn collaboration with Javier Leal of Mas Libertad Menos Barreras students were asked to create devices and wearable products to aid young people with cerebral palsy. Students initially worked remotely with Instituto Nuevo Amanecer in Monterrey, Mexico. During this initial studio, students had expert input from Dr. Consuelo Ibarra. NuVu students then spent another two weeks progressing their projects and then travelled to Monterrey, Mexico for a week to work directly with their young clients. Undergraduate students at Monterrey Tec worked with our students to progress their projects while in Monterrey. This was my first studio that focused on disability and lessons learned from this studio—most importantly that codesign is crucial--affected all of the studios that followed.
